CATALYST REGENRATION VOLVO V70 2.4 2000 year
Another cool classic with a faulty catalytic converter has come to us. Five-cylinder inline with 170 km of power. Originally installed was a metal cartridge which rarely happens. Despite the fact that metal inserts are more resistant than ceramic ones, they withstand gas and any mechanical damage better, with time the metal insert needs to be replaced due to natural wear of elements responsible for catalyzing exhaust gases.
Standard is to cut the housing with a band saw, bite into the ceramic catalytic converter insert with an eccentric cutter and that's it, but in this case removing the original insert was a real challenge. A hammer drill, hammer, chisel, cutter and countless k-words were in motion ;-) But we managed to pull it out and clean it in preparation for the installation of a new cartridge. After measuring the inner diameter of the catalytic converter housing, we selected a 125 mm diameter cartridge that fit perfectly into the housing. Of course, it is necessary to weld carefully from the inside anyway, so that the exhaust gases do not bypass the catalyst core through leaks, and so that the cartridge is firmly attached to the housing and does not make any disturbing sounds. The cartridge, as the factory predicts, is of the same capacity as the original, which is 400 cpsi, and meets the emission standards in accordance with the Euro 4 standard. The exact data of the cartridge used for this regeneration can be found at the link - link.
After welding the cartridge from the inside, we also weld the catalyst housing on the outside. All welded using TIG method to maintain the original and aesthetic appearance of the catalytic converter.
