Audi SQ5 catalytic converter regeneration
The catalytic converter came to us in deplorable condition. The car was imported damaged, the engine went into reverse crushing the catalytic converter against the bulkhead wall. A new, original catalytic converter cost about 17 thousand pln.
Is that a lot for an SQ5? And yes and no, but in total quite a lot, but it will definitely feel when the wallet eases ;-)
Despite the tragic condition of the parts, we managed to rebuild it at a price four times less. The effect? Judge for yourself .
From the original parts, only the flange connecting the catalytic converter to the turbine could be salvaged. All the rest were unusable, even the rear flanges were bent. Courtesy of RM Motors, we were able to obtain the necessary parts, the so-called semi-finished parts. They have a downpipe for the Audi S4,S5 B9, which is very similar to the SQ5, and based on the blanks from that model such a hybrid was created.
The flange from the turbo was a diameter as big as a bucket and I had to use the largest insert I had on the shelf, but it had to go so as not to restrict exhaust flow. I have not seen a larger flange so far. The car accelerates to a hundred in 5.4 seconds and after the program for sure under five seconds so the exhaust must have a solid outlet.
Originally the catalytic converter was equipped with two ceramic inserts. The first located between the probe in the turbine and the second probe in the catalytic converter that is the one responsible for generating and displaying the error. The second insert behind the second probe is no longer directly related to the generation of the error, but of course further cleans the exhaust gas of toxic compounds.
Instead of two ceramic ones, one metal one was used, which is resistant to mechanical damage and higher combustion temperature. After regeneration, the error went off, the car passed diagnostic tests without any problems.
The regeneration used a cartridge from the Polish proven manufacturer AWG. Car a few years old so already in force exhaust standard Euro 6. Capacity 600 cpsi, cartridge diameter 150 mm, cartridge length 100 mm.
