HONDA CIVIC 1.8 i-VTEC 141hp CATALYST REGENERATION 2015
Anything that doesn't burn in the cylinder will burn in the catalytic converter, irretrievably destroying the ceramic cartridge.
Whether it's oil going into the combustion chamber and then further into the exhaust, or whether it's unburned gasoline that burns up in the catalytic converter, the effect will be similar. Greetings, by the way, to admirers of "pops&bangs", or so-called popcorn ;-) Incidentally, we don't understand why in the 21st century factory oil defects? Technology is moving forward, and engines are becoming less and less durable.... Not only do they "drink" oil from birth, but their service life often ends before reaching 200,000 kilometers. I guess they should drive longer since they are so well lubricated ?
Here's how the reconditioning process works:
1. Dissecting the case:
After cutting open the housing, we found that the inserts were worn out.... However, when we got to the inside of it, we could immediately see the effects of oil afterburning inside the catalytic converter. The cartridge was very melted on most surfaces
2 Removal of old cartridges:
Such damage greatly restricts the flow of exhaust gas. Incidentally, we recently repaired an American car where the cartridge was so “killed” that the automatic stopped shifting into higher gears because the engine could not reach the desired rpm.
3. Installation of new cartridges:
The engine is repaired, so we put in a new cartridge. In the case of the Honda Civic from Japan, we used 125/80 and 125/60 mm cartridges to maximally fill the chamber created when the old original cartridge was removed. These dimensions were optimally matched to the model in terms of diameter and length.
4.Welding of the housing:
The whole thing was Tig welded as always. After assembly and driving a few kilometers, the housing will turn golden and there will be no trace.
If you feel up to it, you can also replace the cartridges yourself, which you can buy from the links below:
