CATALYTIC CONVERTER REGENERATION BMW E60 M5 SEDAN 5.0 V10 507KM 2006
V10 engine design - In the years when BMW designed the M5 (2005-2010), Formula One used high-capacity V10 engines that reached incredible speeds. BMW was heavily involved in F1, supplying engines for the Williams-BMW team, and was inspired by this solution when designing the unit for the M5 E60. The S85 engine in the M5 E60 can rev up to 8250 rpm, which was unique in series cars for the time.
It's all about components such as lightweight pistons, special cylinder coatings and precision valve trains that allow the engine to run at very high revs and under heavy load, just like the units in F1 ;)
We received a part very close to this incredible engine - catalytic converters, which we had the opportunity to remanufacture. In the BMW M5 E60, they were placed in the exhaust system close to the manifolds, which allows them to heat up quickly when the engine is started. Getting the catalytic converters up to operating temperature quickly is crucial to their effectiveness, especially during cold starts when the engine is still not warmed up.
These catalytic converters are equipped with lambda probes (oxygen sensors) that monitor the composition of the exhaust gas upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter. The sensors work with the engine computer (ECU), which adjusts the composition of the fuel-air mixture based on this data, ensuring optimal combustion conditions and efficient catalytic converter operation. As a result, the engine combines high performance with low emissions.
For such a demanding unit, we installed catalytic converter cartridges from the renowned company RFC (Race Flow Catalyst), with dimensions of 105x80 mm, EURO 5 emission standard and a capacity of 400 cpsi. In such a car, taking care of the efficiency of the exhaust system has a huge impact on engine performance. The cartridges we have selected minimize power loss while ensuring adequate emission reduction.
